Summary

Problem: Facial expression and facial animation are two crucial aspects to make a virtual a character expressive and believable, since facial expression is the important nonverbal cue to convey human emotion.
Solution: I made a program that generates different facial expressions on a virtual human (one for each of the six universal emotions, as discovered by Paul Ekman), and smoothly animates the character when transitioning from one emotion to another.

The key points I used to animate the character, focused on the main facial features that convey emotion (eyelids, eyebrows, lips, chin, jaw, cheekbones and nostrlis).
